Words of love.... you whisper soft and true
Born Charles Hardin Holley, Buddy Holly was an American singer, songwriter, and pioneer of rock and roll. He turned to rock music after seeing Elvis Presley sing in Lubbock in early 1955 and a few months later appeared on the same bill with Elvis also in Lubbock. After forming The Crickets, they began making records which included songs such as "I Fought the Law" (Later to be covered by The Clash) and "That will be the day". which became huge hits. Following the Februrary 2, 1959 performance at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa, Buddy Holly chartered a Beechcraft Bonanza to take him and his new Crickets band to Fargo, North Dakota. But shortly after take off the plane crashed, killing everyone on board including such famous acts as Richie Valens and J.P. Richardson (a.k.a. The Big Bopper). Holly was only 22, such a bright light to be snuffed out so early.
